The Retrographer, Special Issue: "The Light of the Day 2"

Check out my new EP, “The Light of the Day 2” on any streaming service!Hey folks,

In January of this year I was sitting alone with my guitar, thinking back on the excitement of putting out my first album, Sunday, just a few months prior. I was idly noodling and found myself delving back into the descending prechorus riff of my song “The Light of the Day” and thought, “does anybody ever write sequels to songs? What would a sequel to this song be like?”Then it hit me. I thought about everyone who helped me make it, the fun we had together, all the cool things they added; how grateful I was to be blessed with so many people’s generosity and support; how accomplished and talented this group of people is; how proud I am to name them among my collaborators. I thought, "A great sequel brings the gang back for one more heist." This song would be a way to say thank you to everyone who helped me get this thing over the finish line, and it’s out today, one year exactly since I released the original “The Light of the Day”.

This is also my first ever music video. I made it myself, and while that’s painfully obvious from watching it, I hope my gratitude to this crew of people is just as clear.

Sunday meant so much to me, and this EP is my formal farewell to that musical era. Also on the EP are a single cut of “Snow Walk” for all you playlisters out there, and a reimagining of the album’s closing song, “Hey Young Man”. I hope you dig them.

This EP was produced and mixed by Ian Wayne, who made it sound fantastic and contributed a bumper crop of cool ideas to each song. I, as always, relied heavily on my musical partnership with Andrew Daly Frank, who played guitar and lent advice and guidance. Ben Wagner played drums on “The Light of the Day 2” and “Snow Walk”; Alec Spiegelman played saxophone and Cole Kamen-Green played trumpet; Winston Cook-Wilson and Caitlin Pasko played keys; Caitlin and Kyle Wilson sang, as did Ian, and, amazingly, Emma and Sophie Racine, as well as my mom, Audrey Walker. But all of this should be clear from the video.

Please check out the EP and video and keep an eye out for new stuff soon.

Love,

Charlie
